“All Grit and No Quit”
“All grit and no quit.” These are the deeply rooted words that Josh Ward lives by to an absolute fault. An anchored mindset that has led this Texas country music rising star from a drifter’s adolescence to the jeopardous game of the rodeo circuit to the punishing toil of the Texas oil fields, and on into the fickle arms of the music business.
The Road to Country Music Success
Some might argue whether it’s his nine consecutive #1 hit singles in Texas, his impressive social media following with over 2 million views on YouTube and 3 million streams on Spotify, or his three respected album releases that have garnered him staying power. Josh Ward can consistently draw full houses with over 200 tour dates a year, impressing even in unfamiliar towns. Yet, what truly gives him staying power is simple: Josh Ward is country music blood to bone.
The Rise to Headliner
In 2017, Ward toured heavily, building on the success of his album “Holding Me Together,” with all six singles reaching #1 on the Texas Regional Radio Chart. His headlining status quickly grew, yet he remained humble when Cody Johnson introduced him to West Coast audiences. Ward returned to those new markets to sold-out shows, confirming that his music was catching on in a big way.
Family, Fans, and the Real Josh Ward
The culmination of his success can be attributed to the man behind the music. Despite a challenging adolescence, he considers himself lucky, with a supportive extended family and a chosen family of fans who resonate with his authenticity. “Words can’t describe the emotion,” Ward says, “and these people pay their hard-earned money to see it every night.” His brand-new album, More Than I Deserve, is his tribute to his fans.
“More Than I Deserve”: The Fourth Album
More Than I Deserve, Ward’s fourth album, was released on May 4, 2018. Returning to Rosewood Studios with producer Greg Hunt, Ward collaborated with musicians like John Carroll, Nate Coon, Milo Deering, and Terry McBride. The album maintains his classic style, with a bit more grit and mileage, kicking up the nostalgia Ward is known for.
Signature Songs from “More Than I Deserve”
The lead single, “All About Lovin’” (written by Brice Long, Terry McBride, and Chris Stapleton), is a catchy tune guaranteed to get listeners dancing. “Home Away From Home” brings a pure country vibe, while Ward’s own songwriting shines on tracks like “A Cowboy Can” and “One More Shot Of Whiskey.” The title track, “More Than I Deserve,” encapsulates Ward’s raw emotion and honesty.
On the Road with the Josh Ward Band
Ward and his band continue to tour extensively across the United States, bringing their sound to new audiences. Reflecting on his journey, Ward says, “I never thought I would be rolling down the road with one of the hottest bands in Texas.”
