Celebrate Model Railroad Month With Depot Day

November is National Model Railroad Month, and if you’re a model train enthusiast, it may just be the most wonderful time of the year. Miniature trains were first made by German craftsmen in the 1830s. Although toy trains became affordable to middle-class American families in the late 1890s, collecting model trains only became a mainstream hobby after World War II. In the US, Lionel Trains dominated the early market. Today, model train enthusiasts are everywhere, and those near Houston, Texas can celebrate Depot Day in nearby Tomball.

What Is Depot Day?

Depot Day is an annual National Model Railroad Month Event hosted by Tomball’s historic Railroad Depot, which was built in 1907. This year’s event takes place on November 12, 2022, beginning at 10 a.m. The day is dedicated to educating and entertaining train lovers with the history of model railroads and the Depot itself. Attendees can enjoy several model railroad displays in 3 different train scales and hundreds of related artifacts as well as railroad art and memorabilia. The event also features live music performances and plenty of excellent photo opportunities.
