Every few decades, the styles and designs of the 1970s reemerge in contemporary pop culture trends, and the 2020s are decidedly one of those times. There are clear ‘60s and ‘70s influences in much of today’s contemporary music as well, with nostalgia for everything from disco to soul. Although reinventions from the era are fun and inspiring, the best way to revisit it is to enjoy live music from real 1970s bands like Firefall, which is still touring today. 

Here are some key things to know (or recall, as the case may be) about the band Firefall:

• The origins of the Firefall name. The band’s name comes from Yosemite National Park’s original summer event at Glacier Point in which the embers of a bonfire were pushed over the edge of the 3,200-foot-tall precipice. The effect from below was a glowing, red-hot stream of fire resembling a waterfall. 
• Band members. Firefall band members originally included Rick Roberts (singer and guitarist), Jock Bartley (lead guitarist), Larry Burnett (singer and rhythm guitarist), Mark Andes (bassist), and Michael Clarke (drummer). This lineup lasted for the band’s first 5 albums, although there have been several changes since that time. 
• Popular songs. The band’s single most popular song by far is “You Are The Woman,” which has been played on commercial radio over 7 million times. Other well-known titles include “Strange Way,” “Just Remember I Love You,” “Cinderella,” and “Mexico.”
• Commercial success. Firefall began to enjoy considerable popularity in the late 1970s. The band has had 3 Gold albums, 2 Platinum albums, and 11 singles that topped charts. It has also performed in concerts featuring Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick, The Beach Boys, and other wildly successful bands.
• Active today. The band has a strong set of core audiences, and it continues to tour and produce new music today. In addition to some recent live albums, Firefall released a studio album called Comet in 2020, the first since Messenger in 1998.
