Two Southern Powerhouses, One Stage: Tab Benoit and Paul Thorn’s One Night Only Tour

When two of America’s most soulful southern performers join forces, you know it’s going to be a show worth seeing. Louisiana blues legend Tab Benoit and Mississippi singer-songwriter Paul Thorn have each carved out their own musical paths, Benoit with his swamp-soaked guitar riffs and Thorn with his sharp-witted, heartfelt storytelling. Now, they’re teaming up to bring audiences a night of powerhouse roots music on their One Night Only Tour.

Tab Benoit: The Bayou Bluesman

Born on November 17, 1967, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tab Benoit grew up in the nearby oil-and-fishing town of Houma, where he still lives today. His early exposure to Cajun waltzes and country radio set the foundation for his musical development, and though he began on drums, the guitar became his instrument of choice when he discovered blues in his teens.

At the legendary Blues Box in Baton Rouge, Benoit cut his teeth playing alongside blues veterans, eventually forming his own trio and hitting the road in the early 1990s. His debut album, Nice and Warm (1992), marked the beginning of a prolific recording and touring career rooted in swamp blues and Cajun-flavored guitar work.

Benoit’s dedication to roots and authenticity shines through: he resisted rock-ification of his sound, maintained a stripped-down band format, and stayed loyal to Louisiana’s musical and environmental culture. Beyond music, he’s known for his environmental advocacy and his love of painting, mechanics, and many other pursuits.

Paul Thorn: From the Ring to the Stage

Hailing from Tupelo, Mississippi, Paul Thorn began his life singing in his father’s Pentecostal church. His path, however, would take many turns: he worked in a furniture factory, became a sky-diver, and even boxed professionally, earning a respectable 14–4 record and fighting on national television.

In 1997, Thorn released his first album, Hammer & Nail, and embarked on a career fusing blues, rock, country, gospel, and Americana. His storytelling lyricism is infused with humor, heartache, and candor, and it’s earned him chart placements, festival appearances, and recognition within the roots-music community. Thorn’s career reflects both a deep reverence for musical tradition and a willingness to explore the human stories behind the songs.

Sharing a Stage on the One Night Only Tour

These two artists — Tab Benoit, with his Louisiana-swamp guitar edge, and Paul Thorn, with his rootsy blend of blues, rock, and soul — each bring rich musical legacies to the stage. Together, they are now performing on their One Night Only Tour, offering fans a rare opportunity to experience both performers live in one show. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Benoit’s Cajun-blues roots or drawn to Thorn’s soulful Americana storytelling, the One Night Only lineup promises an evening of live music synergy worth catching.
